Despite continuous single digit temperatures here in Michigan, Rick Springfield managed to heat up Detroit’s Soundboard at the Motor City Casino Friday night.

The mostly female crowd was loving and enthusiastic as Rick shared many songs, stories, and video clips.

As he generally does lately, Rick opened the show with “Light This Party Up” from the “Rocket Science” CD.  From the moment he hit the stage, it was clear that our guy was on fire.

The night included many classic Rick favorites like “I Get Excited,” “I’ve Done Everything for You,” “Affair of the Heart,” “Love Somebody,” and of course, “Jesse Girl.”

Newer favorites like “Down” and “Miss Mayhem” were also included in the 90-minute set.  Of course, some of the usual cover songs like “Roar” and “Wild Thing” found their way into the evening of incredible live music as well.

Rick even brought out Detroit’s own Wally Palmer of the Romantics to sing his band’s biggest hit, “What I Like About You.”

Rick didn’t disappoint – he made his way through the crowd during “Don’t Talk to Strangers” encouraging some non-singers to take a turn at the microphone.  And for the first time in the almost 40 years I’ve seen him live, Rick came into my row during “Human Touch!”

The show ended with “Kristina,” as it generally does.  It was an amazing show and the best way I know to spend a Friday evening.

Rick Springfield’s new CD, “The Snake King” will be released January 26, 2018.
