David Cassidy sends Thanks to Rick's fans

Yesterday, I got an email from David Cassidy's wife saying that David wanted to express his gratitude to Rick's fans, and knowing that I am also a big Rick fan she asked if I could help get the word to Rick's fans. I told her if David emails me his message, I will immediately post it to the RS fan boards, and how Rick fans would appreciate David's thanks. So here is David's message to all the Rick fans who attended Saturday's show. I am so happy for both sides!! - Barbara Pazmino

To all Rick Springfield fans,

Something extraordinary occurred on Saturday night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. It was the first time in 40 years of touring and doing concerts that I felt genuine fear and anxiety about going on stage, hoping and praying that another artist's fans would stay and accept me as a replacement for the man they came to see.

I was truly blown away at the class and integrity, the love and the enthusiasm for me which was totally unexpected.

As Rick Springfield fans, you all should be very proud of your character, your soul and your goodness.

I know (as I have a lot of fantastic fans myself), how proud Rick must feel having people as amazing as you are.

It was a night I will never, ever forget. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for being so gracious and so supportive. I hope one day, my fans would do the same for Rick, if the opportunity ever presents itself.

With much love and respect,

God bless,

David Cassidy

'80'S HEARTTHROB RICK SPRINGFIELD IN CONCERT AT BALLOON FESTIVAL IS JESSIE'S GIRL A JERSEY GIRL?

It won’t be the summer heat that will have them swooning.

The Quick Chek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning has announced that Grammy Award winner and ‘80s heartthrob Rick Springfield will headline its concert series when PNC presents Springfield on the Festival’s Main Stage at Solberg Airport in Readington, NJ on Sunday, July 25 at 3 p.m.

In the midst of recording what would become the quintessential pop/rock album “Working Class Dog,” Springfield’s career was launched into superstardom in 1981 in more ways than one: as Dr. Noah Drake on the highly popular daytime television drama General Hospital and atop the Billboard charts with the smash hit “Jessie’s Girl.”

That same year MTV debuted and changed the dynamic of the music industry forever. “Jessie’s Girl” hit No. 1 on the charts, “I’ve Done Everything For You” became another hit, and the following year he earned the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance.

“Hopefully Rick can answer the question is Jessie’s Girl a Jersey Girl?” said Howard Freeman, Executive Producer of the largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival in North America. “We’re confident that the answer to where can you find a woman like that is at the balloon festival in Readington. Rick Springfield has a very loyal fan base, not just locally but globally, called ‘Rick’s Chicks’, who are a phenomenon in their own right. We’re thrilled to add him to our concert lineup to close out what will be another classic Festival concert series.”

The other headliners for the 2010 Festival are Air Supply on Friday night July 23, Hannah Montana star Emily Osment on Saturday afternoon, July 24, and George Thorogood & The Destroyers, on Saturday night, July 24.

Springfield solidified his place as the pre-eminent pop artists of the ‘80s with a succession of best selling hits, including “Don’t Talk To Strangers”, which charted at No. 2, “Human Touch” and “Affair of the Heart.” To date, he has had an impressive 17 Top 40 hits, sold nearly 20 million records, earned an American Music Award and added a pair of Grammy nominations.

He continues to record, releasing four albums and a pair of concert CDs in the past six years.

And tour, to the tune of over 100 shows a year, performing for millions of devoted fans and attracting new fans wherever he goes with his unique brand of audience interaction, unstoppable energy, and unforgettable songs that have become part of the soundtrack to people’s lives.

General admission tickets, which include Festival admission and lawn seating for the concert, are $17 in advance for adults ($25 at the gate) and $7 for children ages 4-12 ($10 at the gate). General admission for children ages 3 and under is free. Volkswagen Blue Sky Club VIP tickets, which include Festival admission, reserved concert seating, prime viewing of the scheduled mass hot air balloon ascensions along the flight line, free VIP parking, and access to private food and beverage service and executive restrooms, start at $65 (subject to change after June 1).

Tickets may be purchased by calling 973-882-5464 or online at www.balloonfestival.com.

Bowling with Rick Springfield

May 8th 2010
Benefit for WI Humane Society
Bluemound Bowl
Brookfield, WI

The Charity softball game that was originally scheduled between Team Springfield and Team Potawatomi had to be canceled due to rain the day before making the field too wet for a game. So not to disappoint and to raise much needed funds for the Wisconsin Humane Society the friendly competition was moved to the Bluemound Bowling alley. All fans were invited and a whopping $4000 was raised for the animals. Way to go fans! It was quite crowded and at times hard to see so please forgive the pictures.

Ricks band mates, crew and a few family members competed against the staff from the Potawatomi Casino for bragging rights and a trophy, which Rick claims Team Springfield won.

Night 4 in Milwaukee with Rick Springfield

A View from the balcony......
The last night......it was advertised as a "Totally Different Electric Set" but there were a few repeats. And I think I may have forgotten to mention that the shows have started off each night with the video montage of Rick's career. Its been a crazy week here in Milwaukee. But like all good things it must come to an end sometime and tonight was the night.

We started off with a bang with one of my favorite openers, I'll Make You Happy. The Medley made a return as well, which I am not sure has been heard in a while. Thrown in for good measure was Bathtub Gloria with Californication references. And another crowd favorite back by request Rick said was Jesus Saves. I like this one done better in the audience but I will take it any way I can get it.

IGE made a return with a guitar girl who did an awesome job. After that Rick
told us that at the bowling game earlier to benefit the Wisconsin humane society (http://www.wihumane.org/) raised $4000 and that of course Team Springfield won the trophy!
Human Touch returned with a trip into the audience and up to us in the balcony before
heading back to the stage for Jessie's Girl.

After a quick break the band returned for the encore of a great version of David Bowie's Suffragette City, in which Barbie and friends joined Matt on stage to sing and dance along. Wasted would be the end to a great week! Oh did I mention the shirtless encore?

Night 3 with Rick Springfield in Milwaukee

May 7th 2010
Milwaukee, WI
Potawatomi Casino

Photo & review: Rosie Malthaner

The third night out of 4 was the Working Class Dog night. The show started off with Love Somebody and a shortened version of DTTS. No audience participation though. George and Matt joined in for vocals on the main mic, and I hope they continue to do this as they all seemed to really enjoy playing with each other. We were soon on our way to hearing live the entire Working Class Dog album in the original order.

A fan in the audience had a copy of the WCD album that was printed in reverse and Rick grabbed it for all to see and talked about how the record company wanted his picture on the front instead of Ron's but as we all know Rick won out and Ron was on the cover, I believe he mentioned that only 10,000 of those were printed. A few fans had also dressed the part and brought a blow up version of Lethal Ron, complete with shirt and tie. Rick gave him a place of honor on the stage for the night.

Derek, not to be outdone by George & Matt's antics treated us to an excellent solo on Inside Sylvia. Unfortunately Rick had to make the announcementnt that the scheduled charity softball game against the Potawatomi staff on Saturday needed to be canceled due to the rain and crappy field conditions but we would now be going bowling, yes bowling. He showed off the trophy that was up for grabs and bragged that it would be theirs at the end of the game no doubt about it. And Yellow Rick Road continued their quest to capture the true fan experience.

Rick of course found the cheese head that had made its way on to the stage at some point during the week and decided to model it for us with a little help from Matt. The set ended on the high note of Kristina. Lots of props, great music and fun! Tomorrow we go bowling and one more show to go!

Night 2 with Rick Springfield in Milwaukee

May 6th 2010
Milwaukee, WI
Potawatomi Casino

Photo & review: Rosie Malthaner

Night two in Milwaukee! Tonight it was truly all about the fans. I was curious about what requests would make the cut and was totally unprepared for the songs Rick would pull out of his hat. The tone was set with the former opener, Who Killed R&R making a reappearance. We were then treated to a few from SDAA that I love. Before long Rick had a harmonica in hand and was dueting with Matt on Love Me Do.

Away the band went to watch from the wings as Rick and his acoustic guitar entertained us. And entertain us he would. Rick gave kudos to Buzz for compiling all the ly
rics to the upcoming set list. Songs that have never been played live and some only done as demo's. Commenting that a few of these may be re-recorded for the upcoming album. Rick would break between songs and was quite chatty. At one point Rodger appeared behind him and was blowing bubbles at Rick. He wasn't satisfied with that and during Don't Keep the Sandman, Rodger re appeared with sand that he sprinkled on Rick and the stage. The Yellow Rick Road film crew was still hard at work capturing the fan experiences as well.

Fans in the audience had dressed the part of Rick's orange jump suit fash
ion faux pas and had brought an extra for him and he graciously obliged them with giving it a quick try on. Not to be outdone by Rodger's antics, when the band rejoined Rick for Souls, George & Matt were also wearing them. Rick decided that since he likes performing Love Somebody so much it would be repeated tonight. The show drew to a close without Jessie's Girl, much to the delight of the dedicated fans and another fan fav from SDAA, Wasted was our encore.

I had no expectations going into this show but I was really impressed with the choice of music and the performances by all. I wonder what tonight will bring?

Set List:

Who Killed Rock and Roll
Will I
Beautiful You
Red House
Love Me Do w/harmonica
