8 Days
Nothing all that unusual was played on this night (the 3rd night of five), but some songs that had yet to be played for the week showed up (Rick actually made a comment about them trying to play as many "new" songs as possible) - Waiting for a Girl Like You, State of the Heart, and Beautiful You came out for the first time, and Beautiful You being in the encore was different.
One thing that hasn't been touched on yet is Rick making appearances in the balcony. He doesn't necessarily go up there every night, but there's a good chance he'll go up there at some point during the week, and probably more likely than not he'll go up most nights.
The full set list for the show was:

10 Days
We are up to May 10, 2005 - The Day After YesterdayTour. Rick has worked his way up to 5 shows in a row. It's Derek's birthday. Broken Wings is the only song from TDAY that we get to hear on this night, that is until the show is over. All of a sudden, we realize they are playing a song from TDAY as part of the aftershow music. OMG, that's Rick's voice! It was quite exciting. We got to hear pieces of I'm Not in Love that night, and the rest of the week we heard Life in a Northern Town, Under the Milky Way, Human and For No One. For No One was kind of a bummer because we already had that on Written in Rock, but to be able to hear the preview to the upcoming cd was quite a thrill.
The full set list from the show was:

(I really need to start packing!)
Rick's Counting the days (to Australia)
RICK Springfield became a US citizen last year.
It was about time.
But Sydney-born Springfield, a LA resident for 35 years, says he did it because of a complex US law regarding foreigners and death tax. Importantly, though, he retains dual citizenship.
"My family is over here, but my roots have always been back in Australia," Springfield said.
"I would cut my balls off before I gave up my Australian passport."
Despite his love of Australia, though, Springfield studied hard for the American citizenship exam.
"I learned everything about the Supreme Court, legislature and American history," he said.
"Then I walk into the exam and they ask me: 'Who is the Governor of California and who is the President of the United States'?"
And with that, he was finally a legal alien in the country that delivered his dream.
Springfield, of course, is the singer-songwriter of 1980s anthems Jesse's Girl and Don't Talk To Strangers.
He also starred in popular US soap General Hospital.
The artist did his rock apprenticeship in Aussie bands including Wickety Wak and Zoot.
In 1968 he went to Vietnam to entertain the troops.
"It was crazy," he said. "I knew there was a war going on, but I didn't read newspapers. I was 17.
"We got over there and we were playing for GIs right at the fire base.
"I almost blew the band up with a hand grenade.
"We did everything we could get our hands on - hookers, dope.
"Everything was available."
Soon after, Springfield went solo and plotted a course for America.
"I would write letters to the Canadian government, then see if I could sneak across the border," he said. "It's really hard to get into this country (America), unless you're a terrorist."
Springfield had a few false starts with record labels and contracts.
But in 1982 he scored the role of Dr Noah Drake on General Hospital, which soon exploded in popularity. With a new album already in the can, he only had to wait for his profile to take off. And it did.
"It was a two-edged sword," he said. "I walked into this show when it became the big hit of the summer.
"Suddenly, it was in all the magazines, Elizabeth Taylor wanted a role and all college kids watched it."
Springfield saw the ratings skyrocket, then released Jesse's Girl, the signature song for a generation.
He said the song was about unrequited lust and was based on real-life characters.
Don't Talk To Strangers is about his then-girlfriend, now wife, Barbara Porter. They have two sons, Liam, 22, and Josh, 18.
In 2000, Springfield was arrested for alleged spousal abuse. He was never convicted and the charges were dropped.
After the arrest, he and Porter released a statement declaring their love for each other.
"I had an argument with my wife and my sister-in-law called 911 to break up the argument," he said. "But we have always been very volatile. Our relationship has always been really high. Or low."
Springfield thought he could explain himself to police after they were called.
"But it was fresh after the OJ thing," he recalled. "If there is a celebrity involved, they take them in and book them. Much to my surprise, they handcuffed me and put me in the back of the black and white, and I spent the night in jail.
"That was not fun," he said. " It was a single cell, luckily, but it was pretty filthy.
"It was as bad as you'd imagine.
"I am a big supporter of cops, though. I don't hold it against them."
These days, Springfield still records and tours.
His most recent records included a covers set and shock/denial/anger/acceptance, a dark album detailing separation from family.
It reflects on his time living in Las Vegas performing in hit show FX.
The residency dragged on for two years.
"I became a commuting dad," Springfield said. "It was very hard on our relationship. A lot of anger came out of that."
In August, Springfield will co-headline 1980s live spectacular, The Countdown Spectacular 2.
It marks his first Australian tour as a solo artist.
"I toured everywhere else in the world except Australia, and I don't know why," he said.
Springfield said he was looking forward to returning to the cities he knew as an aspiring musician.
"It's the same story. I went from band to band and things got better," he said. "We did our share of crap, though.
"We'd do shows in the bush, fights would break out and the show would stop until the fight ended. We'd have to defend ourselves with microphone stands.
"I hope things have changed."
The Countdown Spectacular 2 is at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on September 2. Tickets go on sale May 14 through Ticketek.

11 Days (or He took a licking and kept on ticking)
The show on Saturday May 8, 2004 was almost a carbon copy of the show from Thursday night. The only song slightly out of the ordinary was "I Should have Known Better", which had been played earlier in the week. All 4 shows for the week pretty much started out with the same 7 or 8 songs. It wasn't really as much of a mixed bag for the week as one might expect for 4 shows in the same city in one week. On the upside, lots of songs from SDAA and 4 nights in a row of Rick Springfield without having to travel between nights to do it. Early on in the show, Rick asked "Who has been here all 4 nights", then said "you're a bunch of sick f#cks. I'll drink to you. We couldn't have this party without you.".
The stand out moment for this show might have been when an audience member asked if she could lick his stomach, and he let her. Here's a little bit of detail about that. During DTTS, Rick asked someone to sing (Linda) who didn't really want to, but she finally did. After Rick was done with the song, Linda wanted to ask Rick some questions. Rick said since she was brave enough to sing, she gets to ask a question. She apparently asked him something about cutting his hair (indicating that she thought he should). Rick said "wow, you guys are friggin tough critics.....would you like me to cut my hair? How many say yes? (some of the crowd reacts). How many say no (huge crowd reaction). I'm going to shave my head tomorrow just to piss you all off." Then Rick asks Linda "what's your other question? Rick says "if you can WHAT? It's your birthday, and what would you like for your birthday, to do what to my stomach? (I think this was Linda's friend, not Linda and this is when she asked to lick his stomach). Then he says something about "when did I loose control of this f#cking show?" She told him she had permission from her husband. Rick says "that's a damn good husband. Does he have a sister?" (then Rick having a pretend conversation as if he's asking to do the same sort of thing) "Honey, I'll be right back, I just want to shag the girl across the street. Don't mind me, I'll be right back. By the way, can you have some eggs ready and some steak. When I come back, I'll be kind of hungry, she's a bit of a wild one". Then in a high voice (that actually sounds like when he's imitating his mother) he says "yes dear".... Then, she licks his stomach. Not one lick, she pretty much goes after it. Rick: "Wow, I think we just went x-rated right there. Now that's a first. How many of you have been to concerts where an audience members has licked the guys stomach? Give me 5 sister, I think we're in the Guinness book of records. How was it for you? Pretty damn good for me, I'll tell you that. (see picture insert)
After Rick performed Jesus Saves, he said "Thank God he does, or I would be so f#cked. I've done a lot of bad things in my life".....
Oh, have I mentioned that it is the opinion of some that Rick might have been a bit buzzed on this night......

Two Weeks
Fourteen days until Milwaukee 2007 begins. Well, 3 nights seemed to work out pretty good in 2003, so how about 4 nights in 2004 (I'm beginning to see a trend here). The great thing about these shows is they took place during the SDAA tour, and what a tour that was. Fresh new songs to accompany the standards, and what great songs they were! We got 7 songs from SDAA during this show. Very nice! Right after Red House, Rick says "bring me my harmonica" and someone did. Then he said "bring me my wine" and someone did. I guess he was impressed with his requests being fulfilled so easily, so he says "bring me my bag of Rolexes.....bring me my Ferrrari (with a bitch in the back)." Before he went into "I Should Have Known Better" he said they really didn't know it but they'd try it, and it sounded pretty good. Later he broke into a short version of Brown Sugar, but they didn't seem to really know it and he seemed to really want to do a Stones song, so then he went into "The Last Time". Right before Jessie's Girl, he made the promise of doing lots of new stuff the next night "but we'll always do this one" (then went into JG). Then at the end of the show, another promise of new stuff the following night, and the promise of "naked night" on Saturday.
So, you know how when you go to buy tickets for a show, and the people selling you the tickets try to tell you that "there's not a bad seat in the house"? Well, Potawatomi is the one place where that's actually kind of true. Rick really does roam around the venue and there's an excellent chance you'll be up close and personal at one point during the show. And more so if you are sitting in a booth. The featured picture today, emphasizes that point.

This is the night that Rick was (playfully) handcuffed by security. He gave one of the female security guards a hard time during DTTS, so she in turn hand cuffed him while he was in the audience, and he performed about two songs before he was unlocked, and performed a few more with the cuffs dangling off one of his arms. Rick was a good sport and it was very funny.
This show also was the debut of the Homer Doll (who wore an SDAA t-shirt before they were available on the merch site).

First night (March 20), pretty much right out of the box and quite unexpectedly, we get a song that was from the upcoming album. Talk about a mixed bag.....the first song we heard from the upcoming cd was "idontwantanythingfromyou" (hard, angry rock), then just a month prior we get our first taste of "Alien Virus" (bluesy and a little weird), and now we are given "Angels of the Disappeared" (soft, touching ballad). It really did leave us wondering just what this new cd was going to be like.
This was also one of the first times Rick made mention of the promise of "naked night" (for the next night). He's never quite followed through with that :-)
I also think that this might be the longest that Rick's hair has been since the 80's (just a random thought).
The set list from this show was as follows:

Here is a review I wrote of the show back then:
The entertainment director opened up the show again. He asked who had been there last night and if there was a 3rd night, who would come again (that would be cool!). Of course he heard a loud response to both questions.
Rick did what Rick does best and that's mix up the set list when he plays either two shows in one night or two nights in a row. He started out the show with Ordinary Girl and then Love Somebody, neither song he had played the night before. Early in the show he plays Love is Alright Tonite, which is often an encore song. That is very exciting because you're getting it so early in the show and you can be really excited about the song without knowing the show is about to end.
Bathtub Gloria continues.....the funniest line being "I had something in my hand....it was the soap.....so I put it down" Then he sings something about "she takes me to the bed, lays me down, makes me feel alright". Whew, do you need a break after that visual…
Rick sat on the steps during Souls, very nice!
The "Boy 9" guitar bit the dust. We didn't officially find this out until he had George bring it out so he could use it to smash the "mini me" Pinata. Poor thing had a broken neck.(the guitar, NOT the pinata!) When Rick saw the guitar he said "what idiot broke this one" (we think he knew he had done it). He cut himself on the broken guitar when he was swinging it. A little patchwork with a Band-Aid and he was good as new.
IGE had a twist. Rick had gone into the audience, so when it came time to do IGE, he had a girl from the audience come up on the railing and hold his mic and he did IGE from there. There were only a total of 4 girls. It was great!
When Rick went to do the new song, someone had stolen his words from the night before. He asked if anyone had them, that he needed them (he was kind of joking), and apparently he did need them. He changed the 2nd line back to "you try to heal but you crucify" and he messed up the second verse (he kind of mumbled through it). Rick stayed out in the audience for a large portion of the show, but it was really cool (unless maybe you had front row seats). You could see him the whole time, so it made it great for everyone. He went up into the balcony during Human Touch, and the first part of Jessie's Girl. When he was up in the balcony he was standing on the ledge and the only thing there was a railing that was about mid-shin on him. There were NO fans OR security holding on to him or anywhere near him. We were all holding our breath through this nearly having heart attacks with the mere thought of him falling. You could hear him laughing as he headed back to the stage.
Then, first song for the encore was Affair of the Heart, followed by I've Done Everything For You. That was really cool!! It had that whole beginning of the show feeling. Then came Living in Oz, and it was over. It was a great show!

Also, here is a review I wrote of the show back in 2002:
Rick had played this venue before on 11/15/00, so they knew what kind of show he put on and kind of knew what to expect from his fans. They seem to like him and put up with us (lol). The Entertainment Director came out before the show started and said that he heard that there were probably people in the audience from all 50 states. He then went on about how he knew that people would probably want to stand up but because every other row is a booth, it's really hard for the people in the booth to see or stand up, so to be aware of the people behind you. Everyone actually seemed to behave pretty well and respected everyone around.
When Rick got to the new song(idontwantanythingfromyou), apparently he changed the second line from "you try to heal but you crucify" to "you only want me when you're high". The new song ROCKS! You may have to let it sink in a bit, it may catch some off guard by how angry it sounds, but after the initial shock, you’ll really start to enjoy it. (interesting in regard to the "shock" description, this was before the cd title had been announced)
Later Rick asked the crowd what they were drinking because they seemed a little loose, so he said he'd do a loose song and went into Inside Silvia (we're not sure how that correlates but we go with it).
He was walking around the audience and he was standing behind the 4th row (booths), and someone mentioned it was their birthday, and Rick went into the whole routine of how everyone has a birthday, and asked how old he was. Then he proceeded to play Wild Thing while having one oh so lucky member of the audience straddle between his legs for a major portion of the song.
This is the concert where "Bathtub Gloria" was born. In the song, he mentions that Gloria is knocking on the door but he can't hear her because he's taking a bath. She comes into the bathroom, and she pulls the plug. She "reaches her hand deep into the water," between his legs, and pulls the plug. The water drains out and he gets cold, and then he sings "warm me up, baby warm me up". Very hot stuff!
At one point, someone had a sign asking him to flip Matty off, so he did. Then he started talking on phones, early, right before DTTS instead of during. Someone had a Scooby phone, and he told the person he was talking to "I don't want to tell you where I have my mouth". He also talked to someone from Australia and a 13 year old girl who he asked "why aren't you here, you could marry my son". Possibly a subtle comment on the fact "I'm old enough to be your DAD".
There was no IGE during this show. This may be the first time it’s been skipped in a very long time. At the end of the show, Rick said something about overstaying their welcome. They may have gone a little long on the set, then he said "see you tomorrow night, for those of you coming". Which if you think about it, that's pretty interesting. He knows us all too well.

Rick Springfield - Live and Luscious
Rick Springfield performed two concerts this week - Feather Falls Casino in Oroville, CA and Route 66 Casino in Albuquerque, NM. The set list for the first night, was very similar to the Wendover show, and the Albuquerque show was similar minus Gloria. One slight change in a lyric that immediately caught my attention was during Will I - "I broke my heart on the reef of your insecurity". Which show was the best? Well, reviews are mixed, but not unkind (and yes, he did perform Alyson both nights) - I know I personally liked the Albuquerque show better, but I know others who went to both shows who preferred Oroville, but they were both high energy, crowd pleasing performances.
For pictures from the weekend, be sure to check out the picture spotlight section, which will be updated by the end of the day, and within a few weeks, more pictures will be added to the 2007 concert section.
Rick has no shows scheduled again until the "7 shows in 8 days extravaganza" going on the first Week of May. We are hoping to blog the Milwaukee experience in a very timely manner, so stay tuned for that, too
